What it does

Most ways of saving space work after the fact. You shoot at full size, your storage fills up, and weeks later you go back and shrink what you can bear to lose. Nanofy Cam compresses each photo while the file is being written, so the oversized version never lands on your phone.

You pick a compression level in the camera's top bar, the same way you pick a format or a lens. Here is roughly what each level saves on the main camera:

  • None: original size
  • Standard: about 10% smaller, tuned to look the same to your eye
  • High: about 30% smaller
  • Ultra: about 50% smaller
  • Max: about 75% smaller, the smallest level that keeps HDR
  • Oblivion: about 95% smaller, saved in standard dynamic range

None, Standard and High are free. Ultra, Max and Oblivion come with Pro.

One measured example: a 48.8 megapixel HEIC from an iPhone 17 Pro went from 4.47 MB to 2.26 MB at High, 49% smaller, with a structural similarity of 0.98 to the original. That photo did better than most. Why the levels save what they do.

Who it's for

You, if your iPhone or iCloud storage keeps filling up with photos you want to keep. Cam deals with the size at the shutter, so there is nothing to clear out later. It also suits anyone who has tried a compression app that wanted an account, or wanted to upload photos somewhere to do the work.

Your photos stay yours

Nanofy can't see your photos. There are no servers to send them to, and no analytics in the app. Where your files go next is yours to choose — your Photos library, your Watch, AirDrop, or nowhere at all.

Nanofy Cam works with Airplane Mode on, and makes no network requests of its own. Photos save to your Photos library, the same place Apple's Camera app writes to. If iCloud Photos is on, Apple syncs them to your own iCloud account. The privacy policy has the detail.

Made with care

Text in Nanofy Cam follows your iPhone's text size and Bold Text settings. Controls carry VoiceOver labels, and the camera tones down its animations when Reduce Motion is on.

Questions

Does Nanofy Cam upload my photos?

No. Your iPhone does the work, the app makes no network requests of its own, and there are no Nanofy servers for a photo to reach.

Can I undo the compression?

Yes, for a while. Cam keeps the full-quality original of a compressed photo on your iPhone for 3 days, outside iCloud and your backups. Open the photo in Nanofy Cam, tap ···, then Restore Full Quality. Live Photos, panoramas, RAW and video keep no original.

Is there an Android version?

Nanofy Cam is iPhone only for now. We plan to expand to other platforms later.
